About Soil & Health NZ
Founded in 1941, we’re a charity and incorporated society governed by a volunteer National Council of elected members.
We work with our members and partner organisations to support the development of organic, regenerative growing: healthy soil, healthy food, healthy people – oranga nuku, oranga kai, oranga tāngata.
Our activities
For 82 years (1942-2024) we published a magazine, Organic NZ. Many past articles are available on our Organic NZ website.
We currently publish an email newsletter: Organic NZ e-news, and information and articles on this website, on our Organic NZ website, and on our social media.
We also share our perspectives via submissions, media releases and other communications.
Our structure
The Soil & Health Association has a strong supporter and membership base. We have a volunteer governance body, a national office with permanent staff members, contract staff, and branches that are run by volunteers.
Governance
The Association’s governance body is called the National Council (NC). It consists of usually seven members who are elected by the membership for a two-year term.

National office
Our small team runs the day-to-day operations of the Association. We operate online, and no longer have a physical office.

Branches
The branches are set up with their own constitutions and committees. There are currently two active branches: Auckland and Mid-Canterbury.
Members and Supporters
Members and supporters have made it possible to have an Association since 1941. By joining the Association and making donations, members of the public provide funding for the Association to carry out its work. Members and supporters also play a vital role in education and advocacy, educating both themselves and others and taking action to support our campaigns. Join or rejoin the Association here, and make a donation here.
Our policies
We take a stance on key issues relating to food, the environment and health. Read our policy positions here: Our policies
Our networks
Soil & Health has been a member of IFOAM, the International Federation of Organic Agriculture Movements, since 1972.
We are also founding members of OANZ, Organics Aotearoa New Zealand, the peak organic sector body in this country.
